Export control classifications for Aspera products

Exportation of Aspera products falls under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), which is a branch within the US Department of Commerce that controls the export of items that have both potential civilian and military uses (“dual-use” items).

These “dual-use” items are classified with an ECCN (Export Control Classification Number) which determines the level of export controls on the items and whether exports of the items require a license. Items whose classification was established by a BIS review are also given a CCAT (Commodity Classification Automated Tracking System) number, which may be required for reporting to BIS on encryption exports.

The ECCN for the following Aspera products is 5D992 and the CCAT number is R100020:

  • Connect browser plugin
  • Console
  • Enterprise Server
  • Faspex
  • FASPManager
  • Point to Point
  • Shares

In the ECCN, the 5 classifies Aspera products under Telecommunications and Information Security and the D classifies them as Software. For further information on the export controls for products with this ECCN, consult the Commerce Control List available on the BIS website (http://www.bis.doc.gov).
