During an upgrade of Connect from 2.4.0 to 2.6.0, the Java applet based installation hangs indefinitely. This occurs when the installed version was originally installed by the Java applet-based installation and the upgrade is done by the Java applet-based installation as well.
The issue is that the uninstallation is silently failing leaving the Java applet in an hung state due to an attempt to delete an invalid registry entry.
Step 1. In a text editor, open up uninstall.bat. This file is located in the Connect installation directory, ie "C:\Program Files (x86)\Aspera\Aspera Connect" for per-machine installations (admin user). For per-user installations, the installation directory can be found in an equivalent directory under the user's %APPDATA% directory.
Step 2. Look for the following line:
reg delete "null" /f
Step 3. Replace this line with either:
For a per-machine installations (admin user):
reg delete "HKLM\Software\Aspera\Aspera Connect" /f
For a per-user installation (standard user):
reg delete "HKCU\Software\Aspera\Aspera Connect" /f
Step 4. Save and close uninstall.bat.
Step 5. Reattempt the upgrade.
