Intermittent SSH Errors Fork( ): Resources Temporarily Unavailable

Issue

While attempting to connect to a server using the Enterprise GUI, the program hangs. It will display connecting to xx.x.xxx.xx and remain that way until the user cancels the connection. The other result will be shortly after attempting to connect to a server a message will pop up saying Failed to connect to xx.x.xxx.xx: Connection reset. When viewing the error in Windows Event Viewer, under sshd, the errors displayed will look something similar to:

sshd: PID 356: error: do_exec_no_pty: fork: Resource temporarily unavailable
sshd: PID 6280: error: do_exec_no_pty: fork: Resource temporarily unavailable
sshd: PID 7148: error: fork: Resource temporarily unavailable

Environment

  • Product: Enterprise Server
  • Version: 2.6, 2.7
  • Operating System: Windows 2008 R2 x64

Solution/Workaround

Step 1. Download rebase_1.0.tar.gz and extract the files onto a user with full Administrator privileges.

Step 2. Read the README file.

Step 3. Run fix_pt1_REBOOT.bat and allow the batch file to reboot the machine.

Step 4. After the machine has finished rebooting, run fix_pt2_REBASE.bat.
