"No such option nc -z" error when checking status of asperacentral

Issue

You check the status of asperacentral with the below command on Redhat/CentOS 7:

/etc/init.d/asperacentral status

The following error message appears:

no such option nc -z

This is due to the asperacentral script making use of nc -z which is no longer available on Redhat/CentOS 7. This will soon be addressed in a future release of Enterprise Server/Connect Server/Point to Point.

Environment

  • Product: Enterprise Server, Connect Server, Point to Point
  • Operating System: Linux Redhat/CentOS 7

Workaround

In the meantime, there is a workaround available which entails replacing the existing asperacentral script with one that doesn’t rely on nc -z.

1. First, back up the existing asperacentral script. You can do so with the following command:

cp /etc/init.d/asperacentral /etc/init.d/asperacentral.bak

2. Download the replacement asperacentral script attached at the end of this article and move it to the following location:

 /etc/init.d/asperacentral

3. Change the permissions of the new asperacentral script to match those of the original:

chmod 755 /etc/init.d/asperacentral

You should now be able to check the status of asperacentral successfully.
