How to increase the console report size.

THIS IS NOT VALID FOR CONSOLE 2.3.0+: Configurations->Defaults allows to specify the report size from the Aspera console UI

Console allows you to create and export custom reports, as well as apply filters and scheduling options. When the database behind Console is filled with a good amount of information and you want to have an important report, it can happened that the size of the report exceed the maximum size set in the configuration.

The output will be like this:

XLS file(s) not created.
The size of the report (9.5 MB) exceeded the maximum size (5 MB)

To browse the report results, rerun without selecting any file formats

To avoid or get rid of this issue, you will need to modify a file named request.rb inside the Console folder. The path to access this file is the following one:

 <CONSOLE_ROOT>/app/models/asp_rpt/request.rb

where console_root is:

Linux: /opt/aspera/console/
Windows 64bits: C:\Program Files (x86)\Aspera\Management Console\

The changes have to been made at the lines 38-40:

MAX_ATTACHMENT_SIZE = 1.megabyte
MAX_DATA_LENGTH = 5.megabytes
MAX_XLS_ROW_COUNT = 10_000

After saving the changes, you need to restart the console web app with the following command line:

asctl console:restart

Now, you can produce bigger reports without having any issues.

ADVICE: Do not make any backup ending in .rb as the application framework will process that as well, and this will cause unexpected issues.
