How to find your license details

Description

The license for your Aspera product determines the usage level and features you are entitled to based on what you chose to purchase.

For example, for Aspera transfer servers you are entitled to a certain amount of bandwidth based on what you deem your needs to be, and your license establishes this bandwidth cap for the duration of your license.

If you need to review your license details, there are several ways to do so based on your product.

Note: This article is specific to license files, and does not apply to entitlements.

Transfer servers

The following methods of reviewing license details apply to Enterprise Server, Connect Server and Point to Point.

The quickest way to review your license terms is through the command line.

The following command displays the full details of your license:

ascp -DD -A

Below is sample output for a Connect Server license with a bandwidth cap of 500Mb that expires on November 11, 2015. Features such as Connect, mobile, and Sync among others are enabled:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<license version="1">
  <!-- Void if modified -->

  <expiration_date>2015-11-30</expiration_date>

</license>

If you would prefer to use the GUI and read the license terms without tags, you can click on Tools > License in your GUI application to bring up the same information in a neater format:

gui_lic1.jpg

The location of the license file itself can be found at the following:

  • Linux: /opt/aspera/etc/aspera-license
  • Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Aspera\product_name\etc\aspera-license
  • Mac: /Library/Aspera/etc/aspera-license
  • Isilon: /ifs/.ifsvar/aspera/etc/aspera-license

Note that this file is not human readable, and the ascp -DD -A command serves to decode it.
