  • Backup your existing Faspex
# asctl faspex:backup_database
  • Backup your aspera.conf
# cp /opt/aspera/etc/aspera.conf /opt/aspera/etc/aspera.conf.before.3.5.4
  • Download the latest versions of Aspera software
# wget http://download.asperasoft.com/sw/ondemand/3.5.4/aws/aspera-entsrv-3.5.4.100434-linux-64.rpm
# wget http://download.asperasoft.com/sw/ondemand/3.5.4/aws/aspera-common-1.1.19.99169-0.x86_64.rpm
# wget http://download.asperasoft.com/sw/ondemand/3.5.4/aws/aspera-faspex-3.9.2.107136-0.x86_64.rpm
# wget http://download.asperasoft.com/sw/ondemand/3.5.4/aws/aspera-ondemand-tools-3.4.0-103198.noarch.rpm
# wget http://download.asperasoft.com/sw/ondemand/3.5.4/aws/aspera-ondemand-init-fod-20mbps-3.4.5-103198.noarch.rpm

Procedure - Upgrade

  • Upgrade the Enterprise Server
# rpm -Uvh aspera-entsrv-3.5.4.100434-linux-64.rpm
  • Stop all Faspex processes
# asctl all:stop
  • Upgrade the Common and Faspex RPMs
# rpm -Uvh aspera-common-1.1.19.99169-0.x86_64.rpm
# rpm -Uvh aspera-faspex-3.9.2.107136-0.x86_64.rpm
# rpm -Uvh aspera-ondemand-tools-3.4.0-103198.noarch.rpm
# rpm -Uvh aspera-ondemand-init-fod-20mbps-3.4.5-103198.noarch.rpm
  • Run the upgrade utility (during this upgrade, you can answer 'yes' to all defaults by typing the letter 'y')
# asctl faspex:upgrade
  • Restore your old aspera.conf (in case your transfer server is local)
# mv /opt/aspera/etc/aspera.conf /opt/aspera/etc/aspera.conf.after.upgrade
# mv /opt/aspera/etc/aspera.conf.before.3.5.4 /opt/aspera/etc/aspera.conf

NOTE:  If your Faspex server is deployed on a separate system from your transfer server, then please be sure to copy the new 'token encryption key' from your upgraded faspex to the actual transfer server.

  • Restart asperanoded, asperatrapd, faspex and aspera_httpd services
# service asperanoded restart
# service asperatrapd restart
# asctl faspex:restart
# service asperahttpd restart
  • Login and confirm that Faspex is able to do transfers.
  • Perform a backup of your Faspex
# asctl faspex:backup_database

At this point your Faspex On Demand 20Mbps has been upgraded to the 3.5.4 release.
