Enabling the Connect browser plug-in on Microsoft Edge for private/domain networks

Issue

The Aspera Connect Browser Plug-In does not function on the Microsoft Edge browser when trying to communicate with a server in the same private network, or with a Trusted Site.

You may notice the pop up below which asks: Did you mean to switch apps? Normally selecting Yes launches Connect. In this instance, selecting either Yes or No does nothing, and refreshing merely brings the pop up back.

This is because Edge runs in Enhanced Protected Mode (EPM) under these circumstances, which prevents communication with the server.

Environment

  • Product: Connect
  • Version: 3.6.5+

Solution

1. Remove the site you need to use Connect for from the Trusted Sites List.

a. Open the Control Panel (you can do so by pressing the Window key + X, then selecting Control Panel)

b. Go to Network and Internet > Internet Options. Click the Security tab.

c. Click the Trusted sites zone, then click the Sites button.

d. Remove your Connect-enabled site from the list.

2. Disable loopback check, which is enabled by EPM.

You can disable it by running the following command:

CheckNetIsolation.exe LoopbackExempt -a -n=Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe
